Well, the first thing i do with my student is ask them the meaning of the topic they’re studying and show them where its going to help them in his/her future if incase he doesn’t know about it i give him a clear explanation of what it is and why we’re learning it. I then explain the whole procedure and then ask him to explain me what i had explained him. And lastly, at the end of the week i conduct a test to know his performance
