About Jorge

I teach by trusting careful observation more than vague encouragement. In a lesson I watch hands, bow path, and listening as closely as the notes on the page. If an explanation does not land, I change the demo: a simpler motion, a silent bow, an analogy from everyday movement, or a listening-first pass before you play again. You leave knowing what to feel for, not only what to push through.

I keep the room calm and precise without making it stiff. Mistakes are useful data. When something collapses at tempo, I am more interested in the three notes that fail than in a speech about practice hours. That stance works for a child finding first fingers and for an advanced player polishing a passage that has never quite settled. Age and level change the repertoire and the pace; the habit of honest diagnosis stays the same.

My relationship to learning is practical and curious. I would rather you understand why a fix works than collect a pile of unrelated tips. Independence is the long aim—so you can hear a problem at home, design a small experiment, and bring clearer questions next time. Lessons feel collaborative: you play, we notice together, we adjust one thing, we test it in real music.

Sitting with me usually feels focused and grounded. There is structure, but it bends around what your hands and ears actually need that day. You should expect clear language, patient re-framing when stuck, and a steady push toward playing that sounds intentional rather than lucky.

In my violin lessons, progress starts with noticing where things fall apart, not only that they do. If a shift lands sharp when you speed up, or a string crossing smears the start of a phrase, we slow the passage just enough to hear and feel the break point, then practice that tiny seam on its own. Beginners use the same idea on open strings and first-finger placements; more experienced players apply it to double stops, spiccato, or a stubborn bar in a repertoire piece. The goal is the same: stop rehearsing the whole line while the real problem hides in two notes.

I often break bow work into separate jobs before we put it back together. You might hold pitch steady while only changing bow speed, or keep speed even while adjusting contact point, so each variable is clear in your hand. String crossings can be practiced as two small motions—arrive, then draw—rather than one blurry arm swing. When intonation wobbles, I often have you sing or hum the target, find it on the instrument slowly, then reconnect the bow so the ear leads the finger instead of guessing after the fact.

I sometimes split rhythm and pitch on purpose. You might clap or bow an open-string rhythm of a hard passage with no left hand, then add fingers at a tempo where both stay honest. Musical landmarks—phrase shapes, harmonic resting points, a memorable interval—replace blind note-by-note memorizing, whether you are learning simple songs or refining a movement you already know. Whenever possible, we transfer exercises into real music in the same lesson, so technique never floats apart from the piece you care about.

Practice between lessons follows the same detective habit: name the failure point, shrink it, fix one variable, then rebuild. Children get short, clear targets they can feel in their hands; teenagers and adults get language that matches how they already think about problem-solving. Over time you learn to coach yourself—spotting collapse early, choosing a smaller drill, and returning to the phrase with more control and less tension.
