My fundamental belief is that language is a living, breathing entity, inseparable from the culture that shapes it. My teaching therefore extends beyond vocabulary and grammar to include cultural nuances, lifestyles, and communication styles. The goal is not just to teach you how to speak, but to equip you with the skills and understanding to truly communicate. My methodology is a blend of structured learning and authentic communication—a “Communicative-Contextual” approach. It is student-centered and goal-oriented, meaning every lesson is tailored to your personal objectives, whether for business, travel, academics, or heritage connection. I use scaffolded learning, building new concepts on what you already know, starting with a strong foundation in pronunciation and grammar before adding complexity. Contextualized practice means you learn through themed real-life situations like ordering food or understanding a song, not just memorizing lists. I incorporate multimodal input—videos, news clips, music, social media—to expose you to genuine language use, and I balance all four core skills while emphasizing speaking and listening from the start. A typical 45-minute lesson is dynamic and structured: 1、5-minute Warm-Up & Review: Casual conversation to reactivate previous material. 2、10-minute Core Concept Introduction: Clear presentation of the day’s topic with examples. 3、15-minute Guided & Communicative Practice: Role-playing, dialogues, and analysis activities. 4、10-minute Expansion & Cultural Connection: Applying the lesson to cultural contexts, such as exploring dining etiquette when learning food vocabulary. 5、5-minute Recap & Goal Setting: Summarizing the lesson and previewing next steps. What sets me apart is the fusion of linguistic expertise and cultural immersion. I offer both Mandarin and Cantonese, providing comparative insights and catering to diverse goals. Culture is not an aside but a core part of the curriculum—woven into every lesson to make the language memorable. I foster a safe, patient, and adaptive learning environment where mistakes are part of the process. I also focus on pragmatics, teaching how to communicate appropriately in different social contexts, beyond textbook language.
