About Michelle

I have been a student of music since the age of 6. I studied piano and music theory at the Cleveland Music School Settlement from grades 1-8. In High School I played the clarinet for the orchestra and high school band. I also was a member of the Gospel Choir. In college I have taken courses in keyboard, vocal, and Jazz Ensemble. I teach children and beginners. I have a true love and passion for music of all forms including classical, jazz, rhythm and blues, pop, and gospel music. I want to share this love and passion with students as I help them discover what piques their interest musically.

About the lesson

In this class we will learn keyboard basics. I will teach you about notes, beats, scales. We will even do some singing while we play. The class will discuss historical periods of music, importance of cultural diversity in music appreciation and lots more! I bridge music theory and application. I want students to be focused and attentive in their approach to learning but also enjoy and have fun with music. Lessons will involve 30 minutes of music theory including learning notes, scales, counting beats, and music signatures. For the next 30 minutes students will apply what they learned in music theory by learning and playing selected pieces that are appropriate for the level of learning and understanding.
