About Debz

Hi, I’m Debz. I’m a former university lecturer and a current PhD student in medicine, with my research focused on the sociology of health and illness, healthcare systems, and how social factors shape health experiences.
Alongside my academic background, I hold a Master’s degree with Distinction from the University of Manchester and have a strong grounding in sociology, qualitative research, and academic writing. I genuinely love essay writing and critical analysis, particularly helping students move from description into clear, well-argued sociological discussion.
Eventually you won't even need me! and that is the goal!
Many students find sociological theory, concepts and language overwhelming at first. Academic writing can feel like learning a completely new way of thinking - my role is to help you break this down, understand what markers are looking for, and express your ideas clearly and confidently.
I’ve supported undergraduate and postgraduate students across health, nursing, public health and social science courses to achieve strong grades, including successful undergraduate and master’s dissertations. My approach is calm, structured and supportive, especially for students who feel anxious or unsure how to begin.

My lessons are supportive, flexible and shaped around what you are finding most challenging. We’ll focus on helping you understand sociological concepts and theory, and then apply them clearly and confidently in your writing.
Rather than simply proofreading, I provide detailed feedback and academic coaching. This includes helping you interpret assignment briefs, strengthen structure and argument, integrate theory effectively, and move from descriptive writing to critical sociological analysis. If you’re feeling unsure where to start, we’ll break the work into manageable steps and create a clear writing plan.
