To start drawing well, you need to build a few foundational abilities step by step.

• Line control: learning to vary pressure and direction so your lines convey depth and movement.
• Shapes and proportion: seeing complex objects as combinations of basic shapes helps you capture accurate proportions.
• Shading and value: understanding how light falls on objects lets you add depth through gradual tonal changes.
• Perspective: learning one-point and two-point perspective to place elements convincingly on your page.
• Seeing accurately: developing the habit of comparing relationships between shapes before committing to a line.

A private drawing tutor can help you practice each skill with exercises tailored to your level.
