Is it easy to learn Greek?

It all depends on how you study: Setting up a time to learn is much more important than the time you spend with it. 

Making your Greek study time a habit can help you be consistent and improve quite rapidly. Usually, it is hard to find a moment when we want to learn a new skill, but the problem here is not the amount of minutes we have, but the priorities we have made. 

Putting your Greek study time-slot next to something that you do consistently, for example a few minutes after lunch, can help you make studying Greek a consistent habit in your routine, and that routine will be key for you feeling prepared. 

So primarily when wanting to be prepared for something, we are ultimately talking about having good and consistent habits. How long will it take to learn Greek?

Learning a new language does not happen overnight. It may take months or years to master a language. And even when you can have a conversation in another language, you might still be lacking in other areas of the language. 

There is no definitive answer to this question, since it depends on so many factors, not even mentioning the fact that everyone has their own definition of what fluent means. On average, if you were to spend 1 hour per day studying Greek, you could reach conversational fluency within eight to ten months. But there are many factors that come into play when learning a language. 

If you are an English speaker and you are learning Greek, you may be introduced to a series of different elements that are part of the Greek language that are not necessarily found in English. 

But the focus should not be how long it takes, but rather clear objectives you set for yourself. Say for example, being able to tell the story of my last summer vacation in Greek. Okay, now you have a goal and learning how to tell that story in Greek will be your path to learn words and expressions, conjugation and syntax. 

You can start with very simple words, simple verbs, and simple conjugations. Start by learning how to introduce yourself, and tell things that represent your life, your age, your job, your family, your experiences. 

Finally, learning with a teacher can be a great resource when learning another language. Because learning a language can take as little as fifteen minutes per day, but it has to be consistent, learning with a teacher can keep your consistency in check. 

Is it worth it to learn Greek?

Learning another language is always worth it. Learning Greek can enhance your mind. It will enhance your memory, your problem-solving skills, it will enhance your creative thinking capacities and your verbal and spatial abilities. 

Learning any language that exposes you to another culture and way of life will give you perspective and appreciation for cultures that you may not be entirely familiar with. It will also make you appreciate people who are bilingual who have done the work of learning your language and you may see the effort behind it. 

Finally, learning a new language, such as Greek, can make your brain bigger. Bilingual people have shown growth on the cerebral cortex and the hippocampus. Data also shows that people who speak more than one language enjoy higher incomes as a result of increased professional opportunities.
