When you begin taking photography lessons or learning in general about photography you learn to see the world with a different perspective.
Composition is one of the many skills required by photography and because of that, when traveling or just standing in front of a sight that calls your attention, you inevitably will think about the composition of what your watching, or rather the way you would compose the picture of that sight.
Light and shadow and its management is another skill of photography. When thinking about taking a picture or having a session, the amount of light and shadow in any particular setting will play a major role. This is why any photography student will start thinking of settings in relation to the amount of light and shadow they will encounter.
Golden hour and magic hour are two times of the day that are key for photography and this is another thing that photography teaches us. Golden hour makes the skin of people pop up, because it is the moment when the sun is about to start setting and the color its projects is gold. When the sunlight hits the people’s skin, it makes it look golden. Magic hour, on the other hand, is the time after the sun has set and it creates a certain blue-ish, but tamed ambience that makes warmer lights, such as street lights and traffic light pop up by contrast.
Finally, the most important thing photography teaches people is to learn how to observe and be moved by what you watch. In other words, photography gives a certain visual sensibility to students.
Photography has many uses and one of them is having a clear and constant record of any given time or moment. Journalistic photography does this better. It is because a photographer was there, at the time of any particular news, that we can see a snapshot of what that looked like.
Photography also helps us record our times in our lives. Open an old drawer or an old photo book and find an old photo of you or a loved one and you will be transported to that moment and that period of time in your life.
Photography provides also legal and criminal services. There is criminalistic photography that works as evidence in any given trial. These photographs sometimes are key for an investigation to be conducted.
As you can see, photography plays a big role in our lives and in our society. If you are interested in photography lessons you can visit Superprof, type down the subject and your location and a long list of photography tutors in San Jose will appear so you can start browsing and eventually choosing the best teacher for you.
Photography skills are composition, knowing the camera, the lens and how it focus, and managing and capturing light.
Composition is the way we balance an image. This is how we position and given subject or subjects and the elements around it inside the picture.
The camera is our instrument, and the way that it works is by juggling three elements of the equipment: Speed, ISO and aperture. Learning how to use your camera has to do with learning about shutter speed, ISO, and aperture.
The lens has different focal lengths. This is how the lens captures light and therefore it changes the amount of portions of the scene that you are capturing. For example, one would use a wide-angle lens to capture more of the scene and these are usually between 16mm and 35mm. A normal focal length, that is something more similar to what we see with our eyes, is between 35mm and 70mm. That reduces the amount of portions of the scene that you are capturing. Anything higher than 70mm is called a telephoto lens and it is a long focal length lens.
Finally, the most important skill in photography is capturing light and how to manage that.
