About Evie

My name is Evie and I live in Andalucía, Spain. I am British/Irish but have always had an affinity for Spain. When I was 13 I learnt Spanish after spending time in the Canary Islands. Since then, I have always spent extended periods of time back in the Canary Islands, and other regions of Spain, speaking only Spanish. This has afforded me a near-native level of fluency.

I currently live in Andalucía and will soon move to Madrid. I have a deep understanding of dialects, regional cultures and the diversity of not only Spain but the Spanish speaking world through my life-long studies of Spanish.

Crucially, I understand what it is like to learn a second language and this allows me to simplify language learning so that is accessible to all. Too often, students lack confidence in themselves when it comes to learning languages . I will show them that they are more than capable at language skills - they speak English, one of the hardest in the world!

About the lesson

I have an incredibly personal approach to each lesson. The lesson starts with a conversation about the student's day to get their Spanish warmed up. This will also highlight to me any obvious points we can improve on in the lesson.

For A Level students we will work on written articulation for their given text or film. If they have work from school that they would like to go over I will use this section to walk it through with them.

We will also speak about focussed points on the A Level curriculum that they will need for their Oral Exam (cultures of the Hispanic world, tourism etc.). At the end we will revise any grammatical challenges that arose.

Depending on the time left, I will also help the student to understand the advanced grammar structures that are introduced at A Level (present subjunctive, perfect tense, pluperfect subjunctive etc.)

I also teach GCSE Spanish with a focus on topical vocabulary. The structure of the lesson is very similar, with the content adjusted for the level. For example, in the grammar section, I will teach the structures expected at GCSE (simple present indicative not subjunctive).

The student is able to ask questions at any time and I will, of course, help them!
