About Max
Hi, I'm Max, currently in year 13 studying Maths, Further Maths, economic and computing - with an A* predicted in all 4 of these subjects. I performed strongly at GCSE with a top 8 average of 8.6 and an overall profile of (concealed information) (9/8 = A* and 7 = A)
I haven't always been good at maths, and vividly remember the time where I was struggling with GCSE. Eventually I put my head down and started enjoying maths, understanding that the more you do the better you get. This, along with prior teachers, has shaped my teaching style into a heavily hands on process. I believe that every student can get that 7/8/9 at GCSE or A in AS, as long as they remain focussed and learn from their mistakes.

- I have taught year 11 students previously for GCSE maths teaching them topics they highlighted as poor.
- My methodology is simple, the more you practice the better you get, there is no secret to maths. Though some may be more naturally talented than others, hard work will always beat talent in the long run.
I offer two types of lessons;
Lesson type 1 - Planned lessons
-Week by week I go through the desired specification - AS/GCSE teaching the student the current topic. Alongside the lesson I will usually set homework (1-2 hours) to do for the next lesson. The lesson starts with discussing this homework and any mistakes with the student followed by a quick recall of previous topics. This aims to build repetition and understanding of the topic studied. After this, I will slowly build the student up to exam questions, teaching them along the way. I strongly believe that the best way to learn math is to go head first into questions.
Lesson type 2 - Student led session
- Each week, the student will let me know what topic they want to learn. This type of lesson is ideal for students who are struggling with certain topics. I will then go through exam questions with the student helping them along the way. I will also set homework for these students, which will be sent after the lesson and excepted to be handed in for the next lesson.
Both lessons last 90 minutes with the first 30 minutes dedicated to recall and the remaining hour dedicated to the new topic. The first lesson will last 60 minutes, as it does not include the recall and will be my assessment of the current skill of the pupil.
