About Will

Hi, I’m Will! I’m an experienced educator with three years of classroom teaching experience and teaching licensure in both Kentucky and Tennessee. I earned my degree from the University of Kentucky and have spent my professional career helping students build their knowledge, confidence, and academic skills.

Before becoming a teacher, I grew up and attended school in the Chicagoland area, graduating from John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights. My experiences as both a student and educator have shaped my belief that every student deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential- in the classroom and beyond it.

During my time in the classroom, I worked with students with a wide range of abilities, learning styles, strengths, and areas for growth. That experience taught me that effective education isn't about expecting every student to learn the same way. It's about getting to know the student, identifying what is holding them back, and finding an approach that helps the material finally click.

I strive to create a supportive, patient, and judgment-free learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and working through difficult material. Whether a student is struggling in a class, preparing for an important exam, working to improve their writing, or simply wants to strengthen their academic skills, I want them to leave our sessions feeling more capable and confident than when they arrived.

Above all, I genuinely enjoy helping young people succeed. Education has always been important to me, and tutoring gives me the opportunity to provide students with the individualized attention and support that can be difficult to receive in a busy classroom.

As a teacher with three years of classroom experience, I believe tutoring should be more than simply reviewing notes or memorizing information for the next test. My goal is to help students understand what they are learning, build confidence in their abilities, and develop skills they can continue using long after our tutoring session ends.

My approach is personalized to each student. I start by identifying what they already understand, where they are struggling, and how they learn best. From there, I break challenging material into manageable pieces and use discussion, examples, guided practice, and questioning to help students make connections rather than simply memorize answers.

A typical lesson begins with a quick check-in about what the student is currently working on and any areas where they feel confused or unsure. Depending on their needs, we might review a difficult historical concept, work through a homework assignment, prepare for an upcoming exam, analyze primary and secondary sources, develop an essay, or practice important skills such as identifying cause and effect, recognizing themes, constructing arguments, and using evidence effectively.

What sets me apart is my experience as a classroom teacher. I understand both the academic content students are expected to learn and the challenges they can experience trying to learn it. I also know that two students struggling with the same assignment may need completely different approaches. My job is to find the approach that works for your student.
