About Elise
I am passionate about learning. You can often find me reading books, writing down new ideas, taking nature walks, and watching old movies. I believe that school should be about learning and wonder first with rigorous knowledge as the vehicle.
After getting two bachelor's degrees, in mathematics and in mathematics education, I taught 6th and 7th math at my old middle school as a way to give back to the community that raised me. Now, I am pursuing my Master's in math education.
While I love teaching math in school, I am staying home right now to take care of my kids while they are young. Teaching homeschool and tutoring gives me a good balance between family and helping students learn mathematics.

About the lesson

Math emphasis: curiosity, active problem-solving, rigorous justification, and understanding underlying concepts.
Science emphasis: curiosity and hands-on learning all founded on the scientific method: observation, hypothesis, experiment, and conclusion.
A typical mathematics lesson includes:
* 5-10 minute warm-up activity
* 40 minute lesson centered around interesting problems and concluding with a big idea
* 10-15 minute cool-down activity:
- K-6 cool-down activities feature games that cement
basic knowledge and skills
- 7-12 cool-down activities explore real-life important
mathematical problems
A typical science lesson includes:
* 30 minute lesson designed to teach key concepts and relationships
* 30 minute exploratory, hands-on activity applying understanding from the lesson
Each math and science unit includes a home-based project designed to familiarize students with the math and science all around them.
I offer home-school, face-to-face math and science for families in the Utah County Area. I am willing to teach siblings together, for an extra $20 per additional student. I bring all curriculum and associated materials. I offer a 3-day per week option and a 5-day per week option. The 3-day option includes homework and the 5-day option does not include homework. I also give monthly skill-based progress reports.
