About Kira
Graduate and Licentiate of the Pedagogical Course of the Royal Academy of Music in London, offering piano and music theory/solfege lessons. DBS checked. Winner of several international competitions, active soloist and chamber music performer.
I prepare pianists for exams and concerts, as well as conservatoire entry exams and music scholarships at top schools.
I also enjoy teaching how to start playing piano from scratch and simply pursuing this hobby in a fun way. I have taught both children and adults ( ages 4-74!) and my students have passed their ABRSM exams with Distinctions, alongside the theory exams, which I combine in the lesson. I graduated my Masters Degree in Piano Performance in 2024 at the Royal Academy of Music and have since played concerts, explored new repertoire and focused on my teaching, which has become a very rewarding and pleasant part of my life!
I currently continue studying privately with a fantastic teacher from Moscow and I have a lovely class of over 12 students. My goal is to see progress accompanied by self-satisfaction and help the students become confident in reading scores and practising on their own. I always think of music as something that has to be expressive, whether it's beautiful or percussive, and I love brainstorming with my students about stories, characters and how we can achieve those ideas on the piano, technically speaking. What I love about teaching the most is seeing my students progress and noticing how everyone's personality shines differently through music.
Since I was 14, I have attended masterclasses with some of Europe's best piano pedagogues each year, which showed me a variety of teaching methods and the beauty of each player's individuality.
I have also created a 6 month masterclass-festival in my hometown Bucharest a few years back, focusing on elevating and assisting the musical community and playing of a selected group of young pianists, which resulted in them getting accepted at conservatoires and specialist music schools in London, Germany and Italy!

I believe that the best practice sessions include lots of different challenges and components (because 'variety is the spice of life"), therefore I like to instill the idea of compartmentalising practice from the very beginning. I therefore always start with a warm-up, whether you're a complete beginner or already advanced, so the brain and the fingers get ready for the lesson!
After that, depending on the goal and age of the student I will work on different skills throughout the lesson such as some short aural exercises, scales or other exercises to improve your finger independence, sight-reading, rhythm and of course - piano pieces! With someone preparing for an exam or a concert, I would make a long-term plan, in order to organise the repertoire and make sure everything is in place for the big day. I also organise mock-performances and talk about the mental preparation for a concert on top of everything, sometimes in group classes where my students can feel like they have a bit of community and healthy competition.
For someone learning piano simply for fun we would get together and choose some personal favourite pieces with various techniques, so that apart from enjoying their favourite music, they develop the skills to work on a wide range of pieces on their own later on.
I’m happy to work on different things with everyone and I'm happy when someone introduces me to new music - so please, feel free to bring whatever you like and we can set that music as a goal.
My one wish is to clarify to parents and beginners the importance of consistent focused practice. 15-20 minutes daily can go a long way, rather than a 1 hour weekly practice session. You can try to fit those minutes of practice in your child’s or your own personal schedule the same way you would take some time to brush your teeth before going to bed!
I also strongly advise parents to be prepared to support and encourage their children with their progress, because most children love being able to play their favourite tunes, but struggle the moment they are faced with challenges of learning to play an instrument, as it is an incredible exercise in patience and resilience. I always try my best to make it fun, but it only gets easier with consistent practice and little steps, so please be prepared to be there for your child and go through the piano milestones together...!
I will be based in West Kensington starting with the 15th of august and will have a lovely bright studio with a grand piano, or alternatively will be teaching in music studios in Marylebone at the weekend, and covering the following areas for at-home teaching : South Kensington, Hampstead, Balham, Fitzrovia.

Perfect! Kira is an outstanding teacher with a deep wealth of musical knowledge. As an experienced pianist (Grade 8) I can say with confidence that this is the first time I have encountered a teacher who places so much emphasis on the enjoyment of music in addition to world class technical skills. If you wish, either for yourself or for your children, to have a meaningful learning experience with the piano and the world of music then I cannot recommend her enough. A real hidden gem of a teacher.
Perfect! Kira is an amazing teacher! She is a hardworking person! Very patient! Good organized!
Perfect! Kira is very thorough and attentive with her teaching. I have learnt a lot and my fingers have become a lot stronger from all the new exercises she has introduced me to.
