About Maddie
My name is Maddie, and I am a scientific researcher with a strong passion for understanding the natural world, genuinely enjoyable education and helping students build confidence in their learning. My academic background includes zoology, evolutionary biology and ecology, molecular biology, veterinary parasitology and epidemiology, and I have recently completed my third degree, focused in One Health (animals-humans-the environment), and pre-clinical veterinary science.
Throughout my studies and research experience, I have developed a deep understanding of biological systems as well as strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills. I particularly enjoy helping students break down complex concepts into clear, manageable ideas and supporting them to develop confidence in both their scientific understanding and academic skills. I understand that every student learns differently, so I aim to create a supportive and adaptable learning environment tailored to individual goals and learning styles.
Outside of academia, I am also involved in martial arts & fitness instruction and yoga, which have helped me build communication, leadership and mentoring skills. I value patience, discipline and personal growth, and I bring those same qualities into my teaching approach.
I offer tutoring for VCE Biology and undergraduate life sciences subjects, both online and in-person across Eastern Melbourne.

I take a supportive and adaptable approach to tutoring, with a strong focus on helping students build genuine understanding and confidence rather than relying on memorization alone. I encourage students to think critically about biological concepts and make connections between ideas, while also developing effective study habits and scientific communication skills.
My teaching style is tailored to each student’s needs and goals. For VCE students, this may involve working through core concepts, exam-style questions and revision strategies. For university students, I can also assist with deeper conceptual understanding, scientific writing, data interpretation and assignment support. I aim to create a calm and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and engaging actively with the material.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, although longer sessions can be arranged if needed, particularly for exam preparation or assignment support.
I have a background in life sciences research, with formal qualifications and research experience in zoology, evolutionary biology and ecology, molecular biology, veterinary parasitology and epidemiology. My experience in research and teaching-related roles has given me strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex scientific concepts clearly to different audiences.
My lessons are suited to:
VCE Biology students
Undergraduate university students studying biology or related life sciences subjects
Students seeking support with scientific writing and understanding biological concepts
I offer both online and in-person tutoring in Eastern Melbourne.

Maddie is my colleague at work. She is dependable, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about science. I know that she will be a fantastic tutor and role model for all of her students!
I highly recommend Maddie. We were both PhD students in the same building where I see firsthand her ability to manage her own project, attention to details, and her vast knowledge in Biology. She's also very supportive and a great cheerleader to her colleagues. Having her as a tutor would not just help you improve your grades but also definitely help guide and support your learning journey!
