About Ian
Drawing from a solid foundation in mathematics and software engineering, I am a dedicated tutor with an Associate of Science in Mathematics/Computer Science from CT State Tunxis and a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering from Arizona State University. My educational journey has equipped me with extensive knowledge in these fields and ignited a passion for sharing this knowledge through tutoring.
Since August 2018, I have worked as a professional tutor at Tunxis Community College in Farmington, CT, where I have mentored students in computer science, design, and various mathematics topics. This role has allowed me to develop and refine a tutoring approach that is as effective as personal. I believe that education is not one-size-fits-all; therefore, I dedicate myself to understanding the individual needs of each student, crafting lessons that are informative, engaging, and tailored to their specific learning style.
My ability to connect with students across a broad age spectrum, from young learners to adults, truly sets me apart, fostering an environment of trust and encouragement. This connection is the cornerstone of my tutoring methodology, ensuring that each session is a step towards academic success and building confidence and a love for learning.
In addition to tutoring, my role as an SI Leader at Arizona State University has further honed my skills in delivering supplemental instruction in complex subjects like distributed software systems, enhancing my ability to break down difficult concepts into manageable, understandable pieces.
My lessons are designed for students at all levels of their academic journey, whether grappling with the basics of algebra or diving into the intricacies of computer programming. My aim is not just to teach but to inspire my students, to instill in them a sense of achievement and the confidence to tackle challenges in and out of the classroom.
