I have been thinking of a simple philosophical idea about how to make learning math easier from early on in the path to learning math. Here is what I have come up with: Math is 1 + 1 on different scales. I really think that this fits in the time-tested idea of starting simple in order to understand complex ideas. I am convinced that this simple idea would be a solid reminder for how teaching or learning algebra becomes easier.
