About Ellie

I have been teaching art to students K-6th for 7 years. I have taught one-on-one private classes, group classes, classes in after-school programs, and classes at a local private school as the daytime art instructor. I teach in graphite, chalk pastel, oil pastel, marker, watercolor, and colored pencil. My students have exhibited significant improvement in their artistic skills as well as a boost in their enthusiasm for art (you can see my students' work on my website artwithellie.com). I studied fine art with an illustration emphasis at Saddleback Community College and California State University Fullerton. Since then, I work as a freelance illustrator (editorial art, children's book illustration, etc) and run my own after school art program called "Art with Ellie" at a local private school.

About the lesson

I offer private one-on-one classes as well as group classes (minimum of three students) for artists K-6th. It is my job to provide my students the technical drawing and painting skills to let their creativity flourish on paper. For this reason, all of my students create projects using a step-by-step curriculum I have developed that guides them through the process of creating a work of art: sketching basic shapes, refining sketches, laying base colors/values, and detail work. My method is very hands-on. I am always looking over my students' shoulders, guiding them as they work, teaching them new techniques, and encouraging them in their progress. And of course - having so much fun in the process!
