About Ryan
Born and raised in Chicago, I was introduced to Blues, Rock, and Jazz at a young age. By the age of 15, I was performing around town in rock, blues, and avant-garde bands. I first toured at the age of 17 as a solo folk musician. After high school, I attended Columbia College Chicago for music composition while the program was under the leadership of Marcos Balter, internationally renowned composer. I spent lots of my college years tutoring students in music theory. After college I taught guitar lessons around Chicago before I moved to Austin. I am well versed in guitar, piano, bass, drums, singing, reading music, arranging songs, and transcription.

I teach students of all levels the basics of their instrument of choice by selecting the songs they'd like to learn. The best and most entertaining way to pick up an instrument is to see the instrument through the eyes of your favorite musicians. Together we will break down the song so you can play it and ideally learn to write in the style of your favorite musicians if the student has that desire.
