About Kira Phoenix
I have been working as a Tutor and Mentor since 2009. I have helped GCSE, A-level, University and Masters students develop projects, supported sketchbook development, worked on creating visually exciting portfolios for university applications and assisted with dissertation writing. As a tutor I have always enjoyed working with students over a longer period of time in order to build a strong working relationship that is nurturing and confidence building. I graduated from Central St Martins in 2010 and graduated from The Royal College of Art in Glass and Ceramics, with a distinction for my thesis, in 2015. I continue to work as an artist and run my own studio in Wimbledon, London.

Over the years I have had the pleasure to work with students from various backgrounds and needs. My teaching focus is on creative subjects, including Fine Art, History of Art, Design, Photography, Textiles, Drama, Ceramics, Architecture, and Interior Design. I do also teach English Language and English Literature, which is a helpful tool when it comes to supporting students annotate their sketchbooks, write essays or any other written work their course might require.
I have worked with many students who are studying a creative subject at GCSE, A-level, University, and Master’s level. I am very happy to say that each student achieved their goals in receiving high marks for their work and any student who was applying for the next stage of their studies got into their first choice. My approach to teaching is a holistic one. I make sure we cover all areas of study by following the school’s curriculum and make sure that we work on developing the student's individual voice through their work.
To help this student achieve their goals we will be looking at modern and contemporary art, art theory and explore visual cultures from around the world, this can include artefacts you might see in museums and art galleries, as well as architecture, city and landscapes, adverts, TV and film, websites, the body, and street style. What I want to encourage is to approach the subject from a fresh perspective, with emphasis on key areas of debate.
My aim is to support and help build confidence when it comes to researching and writing skills. I have experience of all the England based exam boards and would be able to tailor the classes to these students' needs.
I graduated from Central St Martins Sculpture department in 2010 and from The Royal College of Art in 2015, with a distinction for my thesis. Being dyslexic myself I can understand and provide the additional support that a student who is SEN will need, from taking breaks or talking through any issues that have arisen till the student is feeling more at ease.
**PLEASE NOTE: I only take on new students who are looking for weekly tuition with a minimum of 1 hour per session.
