I am a lifetime beader - started when I was 10 by figuring out thread paths on old jewelry hand-me-downs. Self-taught, I understand how students can be confused by written instructions. My method is to show the student how to do the stitch(es), then show how it applies to the diagrams. This allows students to progress on their own after mastering the stitch(es). With this approach, many students become very proficient in little time, and enjoy creating more items later.
My experiences as a beading teacher include bead parties with 6-10 students, classes with 8-12 participants, and individual tutoring sessions. More than 100 students have continued to create beaded items after completing instruction, and some of those pieces have been awarded prizes in local competitions!
If supplies are required, I can provide these at extra cost or suggest places to obtain them.
I have received multiple awards at the Sonoma County Fair for my beadwork design and workmanship. I also tutor mathematics and have learned it is important to have at least two different ways to explain something so the student can choose whatever works for them.
