Do you seek external validation and solutions to your pain? To only think, do and say the positive? These are not about attainting states of purity and transcendence, but instead avoiding them with practices which only address superficial issues, giving a false sense of healing. Our culture is designed to keep us from knowing what is inside of ourselves; promoting escapism and avoidance of truth. Spiritual bypass ultimately leaves us as hurt as we were in the first place.
Authenticity begins with fearless enquiry about how we are not being authentic, and noticing it every time. What if we said to ourselves: I notice I have a sense of emptiness, disconnection or unease, rather than trying to cover it up with distractions, seeking external solutions or escaping.
Commitment to observe our disconnection is the pathway to connection and authenticity: to true healing.
