The art of teaching piano, to me, is about combining rigorous technical development with the cultivation of a student’s unique artistic voice in a welcoming and stimulating environment. I start lessons by emphasizing the importance of solid fundamentals such as finger strength, hand coordination, accurate rhythm, and sight-reading.
I connect these foundational skills to a diverse repertoire tailored to each student’s tastes and aspirations, whether that means classical masterpieces, jazz improvisations, popular music, or original songs. My teaching integrates music theory and ear training as vital tools for deeper musical understanding and enhanced interpretation. Creativity is at the heart of my approach; I encourage students to improvise and compose regularly to foster musical confidence and personal expression.
Technology is also an essential part of my lessons—I use recording equipment, metronomes, and practice apps to provide real-time feedback and motivate consistent, effective practice. Above all, I strive to create a nurturing atmosphere where students feel inspired, supported, and free to take risks and learn from mistakes. Whether the goal is to prepare for auditions, recitals, or simply to enjoy playing, I work to help students become confident, expressive pianists who embrace music as a lifelong passion and source of joy.
