About Ivan
I am currently a PhD student specializing in theoretical aspects of machine learning. I like to help students understand mathematics and theoretical subjects so that they can also appreciate why I find those subjects fascinating. When I am not doing research or tutoring, I am probably bouldering indoors at Boulder Planet.

I have been a TA and private tutor for mathematics and proof/theory-oriented computer science courses since 2017. I mostly teach university level students (typically Year 3/4 or graduate level), though I occasionally take motivated high school students too (for advanced classes and sometimes Olympiad prep). In addition to helping my students to learn the formal proof, I would also try my best to provide intuition and concrete examples, so that they can "grasp" what is really going on.

Ivan was my tutor for graduate level optimization course. He can break down complicated concepts and provide a good intuition about the technical details. He is always very patient to my questions and very willing to schedule lessons at the last minute. Highly recommended !
