About Ramon
I am a Machine Learning Research Associate at the University of Bristol with a PhD in Applied Mathematics and a First-Class Master of Engineering degree.
I enjoy helping students make sense of technical subjects that can initially feel intimidating. My approach is patient, clear and encouraging, and I always try to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and building confidence at their own pace.

My lessons are tailored to each student’s background, goals and learning style. I focus on developing a strong understanding of the ideas behind machine learning, statistics and probability, rather than simply memorising formulae or learning how to use particular software packages.
I like to combine intuition, mathematical reasoning and practical examples. We can start from the underlying concepts, work through the mathematics carefully, and then apply them to concrete problems or implement them computationally when appropriate. I also encourage students to ask questions throughout the lesson and to explain their reasoning, as this is often the best way to identify and resolve gaps in understanding.
Lessons can cover topics ranging from probability distributions, statistical inference and linear regression to optimisation, neural networks, dimensionality reduction and more advanced machine learning methods. I can also help students work through university coursework, prepare for exams, understand research papers, or strengthen the mathematical foundations needed for machine learning.
A typical lesson lasts around one hour, although longer sessions can be arranged when more time is useful for problem solving, programming or detailed mathematical derivations.
I am a Machine Learning Research Associate at the University of Bristol and hold a PhD in Applied Mathematics, where my research focused on machine learning, dynamical systems, model reduction and data-driven methods. I also hold a First-Class Master of Engineering degree from the University of Bristol.
My lessons are particularly suited to university students, postgraduate students and professionals who want to learn machine learning, statistics or probability at anything from introductory to advanced level. Whether you are encountering these subjects for the first time or want to develop a deeper mathematical understanding, I will adapt the lessons to your current level and objectives.
