About Shamaine
Hi, I’m Shamaine! I hold a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Yorkville University and a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences from North Carolina Central University. I’m also a Licensed Counseling Therapist–Candidate in New Brunswick.
My approach is warm, collaborative and grounded in curiosity. I welcome questions, different perspectives and different learning needs. I especially enjoy helping students connect abstract concepts with everyday experiences while thinking critically about culture, identity and context.

You can be interested in psychology and still find the readings dense, the theories confusing, or the assignment instructions unclear. My goal is to help you understand what you’re learning well enough to explain it in your own words and apply it with confidence.
I offer personalized tutoring for undergraduate psychology and graduate counseling students. Together, we can work on:
Understanding and comparing counseling theories.
Introductory psychology and human development.
Trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice concepts.
Case conceptualization using fictional or course-provided cases.
Working through ethical questions in coursework.
Preparing for class discussions, presentations and exams.
Bring your readings, rubric, course notes or questions. We’ll identify where you’re getting stuck, break the material into manageable pieces, and use examples and discussion to make it meaningful. You don’t need to arrive with perfectly organized questions—that’s something we can figure out together.
These are academic tutoring sessions, not therapy or clinical supervision. I help you develop your understanding and complete your own work.
