I draw on scientific theories rooted soundly in research from linguistics, language development, sociolinguistic, psycholinguistics, anthropology, and education as they build curriculum, plan instruction, and evaluate progress. The humanistic and scientific bases of whole language teaching support each other. They make it possible for me to operate effective, compassionate professionals with the type of the confidence that is based on knowledge and commitment. Based on the teaching approach of Whole language, I have been using the 7 principles of a supportive environment and meaningful interaction succinctly to make language very easy to learn. It is easy when it is real and natural, whole, sensible, interesting, relevant; when it belongs to the learner; when it is a part of a real event; when it has social utility; when it has purpose for the learner. This is a learner-centered teaching philosophy.

teaching intermediate level at Brigham Young University in the U.S., 10 years of Mandarin teacher’s
training experience and 31 years of teaching English at the basic and intermediate levels,

I got my Ph.D degree on Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. I have been teaching Mandarin Chinese for 25 years. Independent teaching in elementary, intermediate and advanced level Chinese at Feng Chia University for 25 years, in intermediate level at Brigham Young University in the U.S. for 8 weeks, I enjoy teaching and respect students as learners, cherish them in all their diversity, and treat them with love and dignity. I am also well adapted in developing and implementing curriculum, managing classrooms and evaluating progress of students and the prospective teachers. Additionally, my passion for Mandarin and culture as whole has allowed me to structure exciting and engaging classes because I can so often relate to them.
