Hi, I’m Yana. I’m a UK‑based native Mandarin speaker living in Winnersh (Wokingham), and I hold a Putonghua Proficiency Test Level 1‑B certificate—great for learners who want clear pronunciation and accurate tones. I have over 10 years of teaching experience in higher education in both China and the UK, and I hold a PhD background. I enjoy helping learners communicate clearly and confidently, whether they’re learning Mandarin for work, travel, or cultural interest. My teaching style is organised, patient and detail‑focused: I break complex language into simple steps, correct pronunciation carefully, and give practical feedback so you can see steady progress.

About the lesson

Want to speak Mandarin with confidence instead of memorising endless lists? Lessons are built around real situations you actually face: introductions and small talk, travel and everyday life, making polite requests, and workplace communication (meetings, presentations, professional messaging). Each session follows a clear structure: goal for the lesson, targeted pronunciation coaching, key sentence patterns you can reuse, then guided speaking practice through role‑plays and short conversations.

Most lessons are 60 minutes. A 20–30 minute diagnostic session is available if you want a fast level check and a clear study plan. Lessons suit beginners to intermediate learners, and can be delivered in English or Chinese depending on your preference. After each lesson you can receive written corrections, key phrases and optional homework so progress is visible week by week. Teaching is based on 10+ years of education experience plus postgraduate‑level academic training, with an emphasis on clear explanations and measurable results.

Details

My standard rate is £35/hour for 1‑to‑1 lessons in person (at my home in Winnersh). Online lessons are £30/hour. Lesson packages are available at a reduced hourly rate (5 hours: £160; 10 hours: £300). A short 20–30 minute diagnostic session is also available if you’d like a quick level check and study plan.
