About Fang

My name is Fang, and I am a Mandarin tutor based in East London. I completed my undergraduate studies in Chinese Language and Literature at a teacher-training university in China and later earned a Master’s degree in Linguistics from Newcastle University in the UK.

My educational background combines formal teacher training with advanced linguistic study. During my undergraduate programme, I undertook a teaching placement in a kindergarten setting and subsequently worked as a private tutor in mathematics and history at secondary level. These experiences strengthened my classroom awareness, patience, and sense of professional responsibility.

Having lived and studied in both China and the UK, I bring strong cross-cultural awareness to my teaching and remain attentive to the challenges English-speaking learners may encounter.

I am friendly, patient, and structured in my approach. I am committed to developing a long-term career in education in the UK and approach my work with professionalism and dedication. I currently have a DBS application in progress.

About the lesson

My lessons are thoughtfully structured to build clarity, confidence, and measurable progress in Mandarin.

With academic training in Chinese Language and Literature and a Master’s degree in Linguistics, I approach language teaching with both subject expertise and pedagogical awareness. I focus on helping students understand pronunciation patterns, tone accuracy, and sentence structure so they can build a solid foundation instead of relying on memorisation alone.

Mandarin presents particular challenges for English-speaking learners, especially in its sound system and grammatical structure. I break these elements into manageable steps and guide students through them in a logical and supportive manner.

A typical adult beginner lesson may include:

• Review and reinforcement of previous material
• Focused tone and pronunciation practice
• Introduction of new vocabulary and sentence patterns
• Structured speaking activities
• Practical application through real-life communication tasks

Lessons are primarily designed for adult learners who value organised and goal-oriented instruction. I also provide age-appropriate sessions for younger students, adapting pace and materials to support their development.

Lessons are available online and in person in East London, with evening and weekend sessions available.

My aim is to create a calm and encouraging environment where students feel confident speaking while progressing with clear direction and measurable outcomes.
