About Brian
I began playing the cello at age seven and have been passionate about music ever since. In high school, I attended the Manhattan School of Music Precollege, where I studied with Wolfram Koessel, cellist of the American String Quartet. I have also been fortunate to receive mentorship from John Koen, cellist with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Throughout my musical career, I have won several competitions, including the Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Concerto Competition, and the American Chamber Orchestra Concerto Competition. I have also had the opportunity to perform alongside distinguished professional musicians, including violin virtuoso Dimitri Berlinsky, Simonide Braconi, Principal Violist of the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra in Milan, and Wilfried Strehle, former violist of the Berlin Philharmonic.
I currently study cello with Professor Felix Wang at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music, where I am pursuing a double degree in Cello Performance and Economics.
My experiences as both a student and performer have shaped the way I approach teaching. I understand how important it is to have a teacher who is encouraging while also challenging you to grow. I hope to provide that same balance for my students and help them develop confidence, strong technique, and, most importantly, a lasting love for music.

My approach to teaching is centered around helping students become independent musicians who can listen and problem-solve for themselves. Rather than telling a student what to do, I like to ask questions and encourage them to reflect on their playing and discover solutions on their own whenever possible.
I believe that a strong technical foundation is essential before moving on to more advanced repertoire. A typical lesson begins with technique, including scales, arpeggios, open strings, and other exercises tailored to the student’s needs. From there, we move into repertoire. I am always interested in helping students learn music that they are genuinely excited about, while also introducing pieces that will help them grow as cellists. At the end of each lesson, I like to discuss practice strategies so that students leave knowing how to practice effectively.
Teaching has also been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mother is a music teacher and was my first teacher, so I grew up seeing firsthand how much a thoughtful and encouraging teacher can shape a student’s relationship with music. Ultimately, my biggest goal is to instill a genuine love for music while giving students the technical skills and independence they need to continue growing.
My lessons are open to cellists of any age or experience level, from complete beginners to more advanced students.
