About Trevor

As a teacher, I want to inspire curiosity and excitement in my students. There is so much to learn about the world, beyond our imaginations even, and every new topic brings another set of questions, challenges, and discoveries. When I teach, I establish rapport with my students to ensure we understand each other. Teaching is all about communication, and if you have a good enough teacher, you can learn anything. If you or your student has previously struggled with subjects like science and math, it’s virtually NEVER because “aren’t smart enough to learn,” but rather because you and your teacher weren’t communicating. I enjoy taking on challenges with compassion for the feelings that can arise when we face them. Together we can take away the fear of failure and lean in to the excitement of discovery.

About the lesson

Have you ever looked at a tree and wondered why it grew that way? Or wondered how you can have two dogs of completely different breeds? How does life happen? While I can’t answer every question, I can introduce you or your student to the fundamentals of biology, chemistry, genetics, and statistics. I aim to teach what I call “scientific intuition,” or the ability to more accurately predict the answers to your questions based on observation and experimental knowledge. My lessons reference evidence-based research, which I keep as up to date as possible as new information comes out. For students enrolled in school, I follow the lesson plan of the classes and teach by supplementing information while working on homework. For homeschoolers and individual learners, I allow students to follow their interests (which keeps learning FUN) while ensuring that we also incorporate fundamental skills like algebra, reading comprehension, and vocabulary. I am both a teacher and a musical theater performer. My experience performing taught me how to engage an audience and gauge their interest level. I make my lessons fun, which has been shown to increase the rate of retention when learning something new! While learning in and of itself can be exciting, it doesn’t hurt to have an upbeat and enthusiastic teacher. My lessons are intended for students of any grade, pre-K to undergraduate. I also teach beginner adults with no background in science who are interested in learning something new or want to homeschool their own children. I specialize in marine biology.
