About the lesson

It is with great excitement and challenging task that I look ahead to being a Teacher, My first goal is to create an atmosphere that encourages participation and involvement with my the experiences that I have had with teaching over the past years. I attempt to inspire growth in my students by giving them tools to take into other disciplines and into other domains of their life. I learned a great deal about tailoring the pace and content of the material to the expertise and interests of the students, which was an exciting challenge given the diversity of the class. I begin with the belief that every student possesses unique capabilities that can be shared with others if given the appropriate sup- ports. I have been very fortunate enough to be a teaching students in a number of courses. In each of these courses, the professor offered me a great deal of independence to give a guest lecturer and lead sections in addition to hold office hours, constructing exams, and grading papers. I have also had the opportunity to be a co-instructor in three courses: Agriculture Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology, and General Microbiology. Each course presented a wonderful opportunity to learn and to grow as a teacher. We along with my professor designed the entire course and lecture, led discussions, and conducted demonstrations in every class. As Students today are swamped with information from sources all around them, from blogs to Wikipedia to social media. My goal as a teacher and this is also the goal of the humanities, I believe is to help them learn how to sift and analyze this mass of information for themselves.
