About Hazel
I believe learning becomes easier when it feels like play, so my lessons are filled with puzzles, patterns, and surprises. We’ll dive into logic riddles, explore fun ideas from game theory, and uncover the playful side of recreational mathematics. I like to show how math appears in everyday life—whether in music, art, cooking, or even making decisions. Each lesson is personalized, so you’ll feel supported at your own pace while still being challenged to think in new ways. I encourage open exploration, where mistakes aren’t setbacks but stepping stones to deeper understanding. Together, we’ll work on collaborative challenges that spark creativity and lead to those exciting “aha!” moments. I’ve helped learners who once felt stuck or anxious about math to discover a fresh perspective and regain confidence. My approach is nurturing, patient, and tailored to bring out your natural curiosity.

I have been teaching Mathematics for over seven years, supported by a Master’s degree in Computational Mathematics. My journey as a tutor has always been about breaking down barriers to learning math, especially for students who never considered themselves “math people.” I take a holistic approach that focuses on big ideas and deep conceptual understanding rather than overwhelming computation.
For me, mathematics is not just numbers and symbols—it’s a language of patterns that connects to philosophy, art, history, and everyday decision-making. I often use real-world analogies, like budgeting, architecture, or even storytelling, to show how abstract concepts come alive. Historical context is another key part of my teaching; I love tracing how great thinkers shaped the theories we use today.
Much of my work has been with liberal arts students, humanities scholars, and learners who once struggled with math anxiety. I understand how intimidating advanced concepts can appear, so I work carefully to replace fear with curiosity. Step by step, I guide students toward clarity, showing them the “why” behind mathematical structures before diving into technical details.
