About Charles

I gained my CELTA in 2016 and have around 5 years of online ESL teaching experience to adult learners. I help business professionals acquire, develop and perfect their English skills, whether to achieve a required test score, help with the transition into a new role or simply to address a specific contextual need such as preparing a presentation, facilitating a meeting or producing a document. I understand that full schedules mean that people cannot easily devote too much time to their professional development. As a consequence I frequently combine English improvement, business skills training and mentoring/coaching in one session where we have an opportunity to explore vocabulary and grammar within a framework of business-related topics (for example facilitating meetings, the challenges of working from home, holding difficult conversations etc) and discussing my client's perspective and challenges with these day-to-day realities of working life. We explore a number of business related topics including working from home, motivation, organisational culture, marketing and advertising, sustainability, ethical practice, motivation, influencing, holding difficult conversations, unconscious bias and strategy. My teaching methods are informal and relaxed and I adjust my teaching style and lesson plan to meet the needs of my clients. I use video and reading material to prompt conversation and concentrate lessons on speaking, listening and reading skills while also working on pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary exercises. My goal is to improve my clients' English through role playing the kind of real-life business scenarios they encounter every day and...above all...make the learning process interesting, interactive and fun! About the lesson

I'm Charles, a CELTA qualified English language tutor, coach, mentor, trainer and consultant with over 25 years’ business experience both in the UK and at an international level. Uniquely, I blend business English tuition, coaching, mentoring and business skills training into hour-long, 1-2-1, online sessions for professionals across the globe. Having worked at a senior, international level within a number of industry sectors and organisation types (ranging from large corporates to SMEs and from consumer goods to edtech, social enterprise and charities) I have a deep understanding of the kind of issues and challenges facing businesses which informs my coaching, mentoring and training practice. Most of all, I'm passionate about working with people and helping them achieve their potential.
