About Erin

I am a highly qualified French teacher who holds a Masters in Teaching Foreign Language, an Illinois Type 9 teaching certificate in French and have taught in elementary, high school and college settings for 15 years. After I received my French degree from Michigan State University, I lived and taught English in Alsace, France for one year and worked for a French company for three years in downtown Chicago before I started my Master's program. France is my second home, and I have traveled there every two years since 2000, therefore I have near native fluency. I have also taken groups of students to France and French speaking Canada and I am passionate about sharing my language skills and knowledge to provide fun, immersive and authentic lessons for my students to experience and speak French.

About the lesson

I was trained and implement lessons using the natural approach and I am diligent about promoting an immersive experience with my students by providing authentic lessons to build skills in French for everyday use, travel and maintenance of current skills. I plan lessons with the goal of production in mind, that students will be able to understand, read, write and speak French as much as possible during our time together. I also believe in giving immediate feedback so that you the student know how you can improve your language skills during and after lessons. My former students would tell you that I am passionate about teaching and learning, that I provide a variety of ways for students to learn, that I am energetic, creative and patient and really care about my students' progress and individual needs while learning new skills.

Details

I often provide lessons at the Harold Washington Library, Chicago, IL in one of the study rooms that they provide in the evenings. I need at least a week's notice to reserve a room for no charge. The $50.00 rate includes teacher preparation for a 1 hour lesson and travel expenses if the location is within 5 miles of my home in the South Loop. I have a 24 hour cancellation policy. Student will be charged 1 hour if a lesson is not cancelled 24 hours in advance.
