About Joseph
I am a mathematically and technically trained tutor with a strong academic background in math and physics when as an undergraduate engineering student at Cornell I have completed advanced coursework in these fields. This work was in calculus I, II, and II, linear algebra, differential equations, and university-level physics that were electricity and magnetism, mechanics, and waves and optics. I have experience helping students at different levels build both understanding and confidence in quantitative subjects.
I take a professional, structured, and patient approach to tutoring. I come to each lesson prepared, tailor explanations to the student’s best way of learning as I would want to be taught in my scholastic career, and focus on clear communication and steady progress. My goal is not only to help students succeed on assignments and exams, but also to make challenging material feel approachable and manageable. I hope it makes the subjects be more interesting for students to study in their future endeavors as well. I work well with middle school, high school, and college students, and I strive to create a supportive and respectful learning environment for each session.

My tutoring approach is concept-focused and student-paced, with an emphasis on building real understanding in math and physics rather than memorization. I help students grasp the “why” behind each topic before moving into problem-solving, using clear explanations, visuals, and real-world examples to make abstract ideas more intuitive. I focus on identifying and filling foundational gaps, which often makes current material feel much more manageable and less overwhelming.
A typical lesson begins with a short check-in to review homework, upcoming exams, or any topics the student finds challenging. I then break down the key concepts step by step and work through practice problems together, gradually encouraging the student to take the lead. Throughout the session, I provide feedback, highlight common mistakes, and share strategies that students can reuse on tests and assignments. Each lesson ends with a clear summary of takeaways so students leave feeling confident and prepared.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to explain complex material in simple, approachable ways while adapting to each student’s learning style. I am patient, flexible, and comfortable explaining concepts in multiple ways until they click. I focus on long-term skill-building and confidence, not just finishing an assignment, so students feel more independent over time.
I tutor middle school, high school, and college students in math and physics, including pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and introductory physics. I also support students in AP-level courses and college exam preparation. My lessons are ideal for students who want clearer explanations, stronger problem-solving skills, or extra confidence in challenging quantitative subjects.
