I have been teaching and tutoring for a significant number of years. I tutor all age groups of students from K-college. My methods of tutoring depends on the needs of my students. I have worked with students that have learning difference so tailoring the lessons is an important skill that I possess. I am a step by step educator but truly believe that assisting students to build solid skills in combination with stimulating prior knowledge to create an interactive learning environment. I love helping all students feel more confident in their strengths and scaffolding their areas of concern.
I have been giving lessons for the past 8 years and have tutored more than I can count. I have also been classroom teaching for 13 years. Many of my students have raised their scores on the SSAT and SAT entrance exams. The college students I tutored in writing have raised their number of points per assignment. The students in middle and high school I have worked with have been less interested in raising grades and more focused on honing their skills. The elementary school students with whom I have worked have been for skills building. Overall I work with students who have a need and I work based on need.
I received my undergraduate degree at Wellesley College where I majored in Social Anthropology and minored in education. I attended the University of South Florida in Tampa in a Master in Teaching program. I did not graduate from that program but did complete all of my coursework and student teaching. Tampa is also where I began my teaching career. I earned a MS in education administration and leadership from Capella University, this degree was done through on-line learning. Over the years I have taught English/language arts, U.S., Modern World, Ancient World histories, reading comprehension, test taking strategies, time management, and writing.
in my experience working with Katrina I have witnessed the integrity she brings to her work. She is dedicated to helping me continue to grow as a writer but also as a learner in general. She believes in a growth mindset which means I have the space in our work to struggle through challenges to come out on the other side. She not only helps edit my college level papers but to make sure she understands what I am writing she reads all of the material I have to read in order to better assist me. She genuinely is concerned about her students and is not focused on her income or profit. She believes in education and the idea of being a life long learner. I have worked with her for two years and will continue to work with her through my Master's program.
I have seen her work with small children to help them with reading comprehension, secondary students who need test prep tutoring, and college students, like myself. She is equally committed to helping all of the students with whom she works, regardless of the age or need.
