About Dave
Hi, my name is Dave. I am a graduate of the University of Auckland, holding both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Classical Violin Performance.
My formal training was guided by distinguished New Zealand tutors Mark Bennett and Julie Park. I also received masterclasses and advanced coaching from prominent New Zealand musicians, including APO Principal Andrew Beer, NZTrio violinist Amalia Hall, and NZ Barok leader Miranda Hutton.
I was born into a musical family and began learning the violin at the age of three. My parents are professional orchestral musicians and music educators. Throughout my academic years, I presented multiple solo recitals and performed in numerous symphony orchestra productions. I also completed a competitive internship program with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra and received several awards for instrumental performance.
Despite having nearly ten years of teaching experience, I continue to practice every day. Constantly refining my technique, tone production, and musical interpretation enables me to bring authentic, up-to-date performance insights into my teaching.

I deliver personalised private lessons tailored to students of all ages, ranging from young beginners, exam candidates, and school orchestra players to adult hobbyists.
My teaching covers violin, viola, guitar, and comprehensive music theory, with systematic preparation for ABRSM, Trinity, and NZMEB music examinations.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes long. Three learning options are available: lessons at my studio in Central Auckland, home visits, or online. Fixed weekly lesson times are arranged to support steady progress. Rescheduling is available with advance notice. Feel free to message me to arrange a trial lesson and see if we are a good fit.
