About Saikat

Music theory became meaningful to me when I stopped seeing it as a collection of rules and started seeing it as the language behind the music I was already playing.

As a multi-instrumentalist, singer, fingerstyle guitarist and music educator, I have spent years exploring how melody, harmony, rhythm and musical structure connect across different instruments and styles.

I have taught more than 500 students worldwide, helping musicians move beyond simply copying songs and towards actually understanding what they are playing.

My approach is practical and curiosity-driven. When you ask, "Why does this chord work?", "How did they create this melody?", "Why does this progression sound so good?", or "How can I create something like this?", I want you to learn how to find the answer yourself.

I don't believe that becoming a knowledgeable musician means memorizing endless terminology. True understanding is when you can hear something, recognize the underlying idea, and use that knowledge to make your own musical decisions.

That is what I aim to develop in my students: not dependence on a teacher who always has the answer, but the ability to eventually discover answers for themselves.

Whether you are a guitarist, singer, pianist, songwriter, composer, producer, or simply someone who wants to understand music beyond playing the notes, I can help you turn scattered musical knowledge into a clear mental framework.

My goal is to make music theory feel less like a subject you have to study and more like a language you can finally speak.

Every student starts from a different point, so I don't believe in forcing everyone through the same fixed theory syllabus.

In the first stage, we identify your current understanding of music, your instrument or musical background, your goals and the specific questions you want theory to answer. From there, I create a practical learning path that fits your schedule, including if you are a busy professional with limited time.

I also have experience preparing students for Trinity, ABRSM and LCM music theory examinations. If you are working towards an exam, we can combine a clear understanding of the underlying musical concepts with focused preparation for the relevant syllabus, question types and examination requirements. The goal is not simply to memorize answers, but to develop the knowledge and confidence needed to apply theory accurately in an exam and beyond.

Instead of overwhelming you with terminology and theoretical rules, we focus on the smallest set of concepts that will create the biggest improvement in your musical understanding.

You won't just learn a concept and move on. We connect it to songs, chords, melodies and music you already know, so you can immediately see where it comes from, why it works and how you can use it yourself.

Your practice is designed to be efficient, focused and realistic. Even with a busy schedule, you can make meaningful progress through short, purposeful sessions rather than memorizing theory that you never actually use.

As your understanding grows, you will gradually become better at analyzing music, recognizing patterns, understanding songs, choosing chords, creating melodies, transposing music and making your own musical decisions.

The objective is not simply to "finish" music theory or pass an examination.

The objective is to make music theory useful enough that you no longer need someone else to tell you what works.

Classes can be conducted online and are suitable for beginners, experienced musicians and students preparing for Trinity, ABRSM or LCM theory examinations. They are also ideal for musicians who have learned primarily through songs, tabs or tutorials but feel that something is missing from their understanding.
