About Duke Gerard

I want to teach because I want my students to enjoy learning Mathematics and develop their love for the subject just as much as I did when I was in my primary and secondary school. It has always been my dream to train students to become independent critical thinkers and accomplished practical problem-solvers. They can apply everything they learn in my class to various fields such as business, science and technology.

As a teacher, I can provide a meaningful impact to a student’s life by taking the role of a surrogate parent, a compassionate counselor or even an inspiring motivator. In addition, my compassion and dedication can help boost my students’ morale and performance in the classroom and urge them to discover their full potentials. Even though teaching is not a popular rewarding career choice, it is still one of the noblest jobs that gives me a different sense of fulfillment. Over the years, I have witnessed students’ shocked but jubilant faces whenever they get a high score in a quiz or long test. Consequently, their jubilation and self-confidence are quite contagious.

My students learning in my class provides a befitting reward for me; however, for any teacher, learning from one’s students is a greater accolade. What makes Mathematics beautiful is that there is no definite solution to a mathematical problem. The brilliance of a student to come up with an alternative solution which I did not foresee makes my job more gratifying and more fun and bestows upon me a humbling experience that I have earned from them.

About the lesson

Great knowledge of the subject matter, leadership, perfect attendance and punctuality, passion for teaching and the ability to communicate effectively are some of my attributes.

The knowledge, skills and experiences I have acquired throughout my career as a teacher, together with my master’s degree in Mathematics, have given me a unique set of teaching skills that, I firmly believe, will be an asset to your learning and appreciation of Mathematics.
