About Salsabil
I am a former research master’s student at the University of Toronto, I received extensive training in molecular biology and electrophysiology where I learned to carry out multiple laboratory techniques and experiments to generate publishable data. My research experiences date back to my undergraduate years when I was a Research Assistant in Dr. Loren Martin's research laboratory, where I investigated the role of social stress on the development of persistent pain in mice. I received formal training in Laboratory Biosafety, and Animal Ethics and handling. While working on this project, I received a prestigious Undergraduate Research Grant for my work on the glucocorticoid receptor expression in rodent empathy and was co-authored on two publications. I received an Honours Bachelor of Science degree with High Distinction where I majored in Biology for Health Sciences and Psychology.

I approach each class with structure and flexibility. I currently tutor students and when I first meet a student, I always ask what their method of learning is; auditory, visual, etc. The second question I ask them is how they take notes and finally what it is that they are struggling with. I like to know what it is they are having issues with to try to get to the bottom of the problem. For example, if I have a student who says I don't understand genetics, I don't like to jump into the lesson right away, I would like to know how they are taking notes, to see if they are organized, and suggest ways to take better notes based on how they learn. If they are visual learners for example I suggest they aid their learning with pictures and diagrams. This way they are better learners in general not just with the class they are seeking help for. I then move on to ask the student what they already know about the subject and what it is they need help with!
