About Alastair

Hi!

My name is Alastair and I am a pianist and composer from the UK. I am originally from Newcastle upon Tyne, a city in the north of England. I moved to Brussels in September 2021 to start a Masters in Piano at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels after 3 years in the north of France where I worked as an educator in music and languages.
I graduated from the University of Oxford where I obtained a bachelor's degree in music and a master's degree in musical composition.
My motivation for teaching has come from 'a willingness to share my passion and my knowledge of music. I also have a lot of experience as a performer, having given regular recitals, especially during my studies. As a composer I had the opportunity to write for various musicians and ensembles including "The Heath Quartet" and "Tritium Trio" during my participation in the composition masterclass at the International Classical Music Festival in Dartington. , UK

About the lesson

I offer courses that aim to develop a creative and intellectual independence in the student as well as a spirit of curiosity and a deep appreciation for music. I take as a starting point, the need to acquire a knowledge base and complete knowledge to serve the student in the discovery of their artistic personality. The courses will thus focus on the two principles; to develop technical and theoretical knowledge of music, and to allow the student's musical creativity to flourish.
