I usually base on the needs of the students, depending on the purpose they have to learn the language. If what you need is to pass a subject or exam, I usually stick to your textbooks but I have materials prepared by me to expand the information. In this sense, the methodology I use is usually more structuralist, focusing first on grammar and then emphasizing other skills (oral and written expression and comprehension). If the student's need is to learn the language for intrinsic motivations and because he needs to use it in real situations in the countries where he speaks, I use a communicative methodology as much as possible.
