About Memud

Hello! My name is Afolashade Okeowo, Memud, and I am a native Yoruba speaker with a deep passion for teaching and sharing the beauty of the Yoruba language and culture. Growing up immersed in the rich traditions and language of the Yoruba people has given me a strong foundation, and I’m excited to pass this knowledge on to others.

I want to teach Yoruba because I believe that language is a powerful tool for connecting people to their roots, building cultural bridges, and creating a sense of identity. For children and adults in the diaspora, learning Yoruba is a way to stay connected to their heritage, and I am deeply committed to helping them achieve that. Teaching also gives me the opportunity to promote the Yoruba language globally, ensuring that it remains vibrant and alive for future generations.

I am passionate about making the learning experience fun, interactive, and tailored to each student’s needs. Whether you're learning for personal growth, cultural reasons, or academic purposes, I am here to support you on your language journey!

About the lesson

My Approach to Yoruba Language Tutoring

Teaching Techniques and Methodology
I use an interactive, student-centered approach that combines traditional methods (like grammar and vocabulary) with practical communication skills through conversation, storytelling, and cultural insights. For younger learners, I incorporate fun activities, games, songs, and visual aids to make learning engaging. Each lesson is customized to meet the unique needs of the student, focusing on building both confidence and fluency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing Yoruba.

Typical Length of a Lesson
A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, but I offer flexibility based on the student’s age and needs. For younger children or beginners, lessons can be 45 minutes to maintain their attention and focus.

Qualifications and Experience
I am a native Yoruba speaker with several years of experience teaching students at different levels, from beginners to advanced learners. I have successfully tutored both local and international students, helping them achieve their language goals. My experience spans individual lessons and small groups.

Who Are My Lessons For?
My lessons are for students of all levels and ages, including children (6 years and older) and adults. I am particularly dedicated to teaching children in the diaspora, whose parents want them to learn and speak Yoruba to stay connected with their cultural heritage.
