About Jason

I believe that my passion for teaching and learning can make me an asset in this position. I have experience in both the classroom and virtual realm of education, making me an ideal candidate. I possess effective communication skills, a strong work ethic and the desire to advocate for youth in all aspects of their development.
Throughout my 26 years working as an educator, I have learned to be organized and flexible. My first 8 years of teaching occurred at an Alternative School for youth serving on Suspended Expulsion. At ALBA (Alternative Learning for Behavior and Attitude) I taught English/Language Arts and Health Education. I gained invaluable experience working with families from various backgrounds and ethnicities. I taught EL students focusing on building foundational language, vocabulary, and literary concepts. I was responsible for designing behavioral support plans to fit individual student needs. Overall, my experience at ALBA provided a foundation for my teaching and I learned hands on, the importance of PBIS, MTISS and Restorative Justice Practices.
Currently I am teaching at the first online, public high school in San Diego. This experience has taught me to be flexible, organized, and resourceful. I was part of the initial staff hired at iHigh Virtual Academy and benefited from the innovation and freedom necessary to build a school from the ground up. I was responsible for training and directing new teachers on best practices related to on-line learning. I provided training for teachers on how to use the Learning Management System (Edgenuity) and other online applications.
Due to the flexibility allowed to Independent Study High Schools, I have welcomed the opportunity to teach Art, Theater, ASB and PE during my tenure at iHigh. This was on top of my assigned responsibilities as an English Teacher. I have also gained invaluable experience in trauma-informed approaches and working with various at-risk student populations. This includes being involved in Restorative Circles with students and staff when the opportunity presented itself.

About the lesson

Lessons are individualized and tailored to each students strengths and areas of growth. I have experience with GED, SAT and ACT prep. Over 23 years of experience in the classroom with ELD learners. Experience working with diverse populations and the ability to build rapport with all my students.
