About Tom

Hello, My name is Tom. I have a master's degree in practical theology and a first class undergraduate degree in Criminology & Sociology. I’m fascinated by people and the beliefs, morals and social connections that shape them. I find that all of the topics I have studied have helped me to connect the people around me more as I begin to understand their worldview, whether that’s influenced by religion or not. I used to work in churches, first as a youth worker and then as a pastor of a diverse city-centre church, before leaving to work in education. Whilst I don’t claim to be religious anymore, I still have huge respect for people of all (and no) beliefs, and love learning about their traditions, communities and motivations.

About the lesson

My teaching style is very organic, taking the subjects that you are currently studying and exploring them in a way that puts focus on the lived experience of real people, whilst also looking at the context and history behind the teachings that people in different religions follow. I find that this is the most interesting way to study religion and theology, and I hope you will too.
