About Eric
In the interest of full transparency, I guess I should say that Spanish was not spoken in my home when I was a child. I originally became interested in Spanish because of my Mexican heritage. But, like you, I had to learn it the hard way - through hard work. My initial exposure to Spanish was spotty, but in the end I received a B.A. in Spanish Literature from Towson University in Baltimore, and an M.A. in Spanish Pedagogy from Middlebury College in Vermont. I have also studied Italian and French, but not to a level where I would feel comfortable teaching them.
Some people might say that you should look for a native speaker for a tutor, but I disagree. Native speakers don't fully understand the difficulties involved in learning their native tongue. As an English speaker who has learned Spanish, I have been through the process you are going through, and I understand what areas can be difficult and confusing. I've been where you are and I know the way through the maze. You'll have to do the work, but I can help guide you. Remember that this process is all about you getting where you want to be. That's what I'm all about.

Hola.
I have been interested in languages practically my whole life. I am an American of Mexican descent and I have lived, worked, and studied in Spain. I have a Master's degree from Middlebury College in Spanish pedagogy and have been teaching Spanish and English (ESL) almost my entire adult life.
I have taught on four continents to students ranging from age 3 to 80+. I have taught complete beginners, coached students who were completely fluent and needed conversation practice, and everything in between.
My range of experiences has allowed me to become very flexible in my teaching method, adapting my style to whatever best suits the student(s). While actual speaking and listening are core to my lessons, I also believe it is important to understand the underlying grammar in order to be able to generalize the lessons for a wider range of application.
But the bottom line is, I am here to help you achieve your language goals, whether you just want to travel and be able to understand basic exchanges, or you are looking for complete fluency. You are the captain of this boat. I will help navigate through the obstacles.
