About Rachel
I have worked as a teaching assistant (TA) for the past two years on top of my own undergraduate studies, and have aided in the updating of an Ontario Grade 9 math course and a first-year Calculus I course. As a TA, I work with junior undergrad students in smaller groups to help them learn new concepts and solidify existing ones, and it is the absolute best part of my time in university. I have received several glowing reviews from students who recognize my efforts and love for teaching. Additionally, I have privately tutored a grade 11 student in math in the student's home.
I'm very friendly and tend to express a sense of humor to break the ice. My teaching involves heavy use of anecdotes and jokes to connect you with concepts. I care very deeply about your success, which often means I will push you to dig deeper if I feel you're up to it. Math is beautiful, and I hope I can help reveal that to you.

I believe in a student-centered teaching environment. I adapt to student needs as necessary, doing my best to ensure my teaching style is connecting with students.
I like to start from the ground up, establishing basics before we try to tackle any more complicated concepts. For example, if we're working with different forms of the equations of a line, I want to make sure the student understands algebraic manipulation to move between these forms before we talk about what each component means.
I am most comfortable tutoring grades 9-12 and first- and second-year undergraduate math, especially pre-calculus and calculus.
