About Shanaka

Hi! I’m Shanaka Samarasena, a Chemical Engineering graduate from the University of Calgary with several years of experience tutoring students at both the high school and university/college levels.

I’ve previously worked as a Learning Support Specialist at the University of Calgary and as a high school chemistry teacher, helping students manage fast-paced courses while building strong academic confidence.

About the lesson

My teaching approach is concept-focused and problem-solving based — I emphasize understanding why concepts work, not just memorizing formulas. Each session is tailored to the student’s course material, learning style, and academic goals.

What I Offer:
Clear, step-by-step explanations for difficult concepts
Custom worksheets, quizzes, and exam-style practice
Help with assignments, midterms, and exam preparation
Catch-up and intensive review sessions
In-person and online tutoring options
Affordable, student-friendly rates

I’ve known Shanaka through the Superprof community, I’ve recommended Shanaka to several students over time.

The feedback has been consistently fantastic. The students I sent Shanaka's way experienced a real turnaround in their math studies, not just in their grades, but in their overall confidence. Shanaka has a great way of making tough concepts click and creating a positive, supportive environment for learning.

I trust Shanaka completely with any student looking to improve in math and highly recommend booking a lesson!
