About Kaley
I'm pretty great at it now, but I wasn't always good at math. In fact, I had terrible grades until around grade 8, then with the help of a great teacher, I was able to catch up and even excel in math class. Once it started to make sense, I found a love for math that led me to pursue my bachelor's degree in pure math. But even with my new passion and talent, university-level math was tough, and I had my fair share of frustration and failures.
The truth is, math is a tricky subject, and I know how it feels to feel completely lost, frustrated, and terrified in a math class. This is why my tutoring method is centered around building confidence and comfort. A calm mind is an open mind.
Throughout university, I provided free tutoring to high school students through a nonprofit organization. In that role, I gained crucial experience in tutoring math to a diverse group of students. No two sessions were the same; I always ensured the sessions catered to the unique needs of my students. Sometimes that meant making efforts to better translate the material for students whose first language is not what the material is written in, adapting the lesson structure to accommodate students with ADHD, or teaching test-taking skills to help ensure that all their hard work pays off. This method produced great results and helped build a great base for students to continue their learning on their own.
My teaching philosophy recognizes the fact that learning is about more than just the subject; it's about you. Getting better at math is about learning how to approach problems. That starts with believing you CAN do it, and then reaching into your mental tool kit to start finding a solution. My method helps develop both these skills for great results to keep you learning long after you pass that pre-calc course!

The first lesson with me is all about identifying your unique needs and coming up with a plan together on how to best move forward. From there, we tackle your course material together, going slow and spending time on the most important stuff first. Between lessons, I provide additional practice material when requested and reviews of what we went over during the lesson to provide support during your solo study time.
I am best with high school-level math and below, but I can provide support for university courses if requested. When I don't feel confident in a topic, I will let you know and do my own homework between lessons to ensure you are getting the best education!
My first language is English. I am able to understand French, so if the material is written in French, that is no problem, but I do prefer to speak English during lessons.
I also provide you with a way to contact me with quick questions outside of lessons, so you can get clarification when it matters most!
