About Leo
I am currently a second-year student at the University of Western Ontario, pursuing a degree in statistical mathematics. I currently have 4.0 GPA and have scored 43/45 in IB. I have two years of tutoring experience and have been a part of my high school's peer tutoring club since grade 9. My students have all significantly improved not only their grades, but their overall mathematical framework.
I am dedicated to help my students understand difficult mathematical concepts and am willing to do everything in my power to help them improve their grades in school. As a recent graduate of high school, I understand how stressful it is to feel stuck in a subject, especially without any outside help. As such, I am charging a relatively low rate to make myself accessible to as many people as possible!

BC's elementary and high school math education has failed many students: those who are struggling are being left behind because teachers don't spend anytime teaching students how to learn. Instead, math content are often taught in a disorganized, confusing way, resulting in many with poor foundational knowledge.
As such, my approach is to firstly identify what the students lack in terms of their foundations. I will explain concepts in a slow, simple and succinct manner, and attempt to reduce complex ideas into practical explanations that students can visualize. This way, they will develop a comprehensive conceptual frameworks. Further, I will focus on teaching students how to learn. My goal is for students to become independent learners; to achieve that, I will focus on sharpening their foundational knowledge and asking them to explain concepts back to me to see if they have a genuine grasp of the mathematical framework, instead of just a mere understanding of how to do questions.
In terms of my lesson structure, students could either bring me work that they don't understand or I could go through with them a pre-set curriculum that they could learn concurrent with their class work. I aim to encourage students to practice as much as possible during their own time, and will give feedback on if they have done enough practices.
Math should be fun. I love to take my class easy in order to make my students feel comfortable and I try, to the best of my ability, to make this experience an enjoyable one. My hope is that once my students become excited about math, they will practice more often and perhaps even try to learn more on their own time!
My class is recommended for students from Grade 4 - 12
